Thank you for highlighting the fact that there is nothing wrong with having learning difficulties. I watched your channel 5 doc and cried ,as I have a 6 year boy who is having difficulties at school, for 2 years I have been trying to get help and the right support as its proven that early years intevention can have a massive impact. No one wants to know due to budget issues and no resources. I am being fobbed off by teachers, s.e.n.c.o.s, local mps, councillors, children and family services. Unless I pay to go private he will not get the correct support. He hates school and is becoming withdrawn and frustrated. I fear that over the years it will worsen and he may go down the route of skipping school then crime and prision. Children are our future and the government or people of power should allocate more money for early years intervention to prevent our children being failed by the system and totally losing interest in the national cirriculum due to not being supported enough!!! why cant this issue be addressed seriously?maybe then our children would not cause public riots and cause public nusiance as they would feel they have more purpose and opportunity in life majourity of teenagers in jail have learning difficulties they feel that they were let through the net and more could have been done to allow them a fair chance of accessing the national cirriculum!

THANK YOU. I have just seen 'My Secret Past'. I was diagnosed with dyslexia after returning to college in my 30s, however went on to complete a degree at Sussex University and write an award winning book to help dyslexic students with what I learned - it's even on Amazon :D
I totally recognise the anger and anxiety displayed in the car journey to the diagnosis, I too used to get like that. The internal hatred and fear that just welled up and up until I could have easily killed someone. Constantly being told I was stupid, thick, an idiot, deeply effected my childhood and self-confidence. I became very depressed and self-harmed. It was then I saw a therapist who helped me back into education and my final dyslexic diagnosis.
I've come so far since then. I know I'm not stupid, in fact I'm a very intelligent person. I can read, I do read, and I write, I've even taken part in the NANOWRIMO (to write a 50,000 word novel in one month). There are ways around dyslexia - it no longer controls me, I control it :D
Shane I hope you too now discover the better side of being dyslexic too xx

I watched with interest your programme " My Secret Past" last night and wanted to say how much I admired you for highlighting for open and honest way that you explained the challenges that you have faced with reading and writing through dyslexia. Thank you for raising awareness, it was an excellent documentary - well done. Many thanks too for all the pleasure that you bring through your music - you just show that great talent does not need to be learnt from a book!

So pleased you made the programme for Ch5. I'm sure it will help and inspire a lot of people. My brother has Aspergers and it took my mom ages to get him assessed as the school weren't convinced there was anything wrong. He was diagnosed and eventually got help - and went on to be the only one of us to go to uni and get a degree. Well done x
